Choir of St Saviour's Church, Pimlico
The choir is made up of five choral scholars, a number of adult volunteers and a small number of children. They sing at Sunday morning Mass (as of September 2020, 10:00 rehearsal for 11:00), offering a selection of anthems and movements of the Mass. Occasionally the choir also sings choral evensong and separate concerts.
The current choir is largely made up of singers in their 20s, with a committed and friendly atmosphere. If you have a background in choral singing and live within reach of Pimlico, you are welcome to join. (At present, subject to Covid-19 social distancing measures)
The Director of Music is Richard Gowers, former organ scholar of King's College, Cambridge, and Organist of the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.
St Saviour's offers five choral scholarships (SSATB), which are renewed or renewed on an annual basis. All positions for 2020-2021 are filled, but there are opportunities to deputise when regular singers are away.
Our choristers meet at 5:30 pm on Thursday evenings. The choristers sing for all our Sunday morning services and we are hoping that they will begin to join us for evensongs before too long. The choristers earn some pocket money for attending rehearsals and services and can work towards obtaining medals through the RSCM ‘Voice for Life’ scheme. If you would like to find out more then come and join us on a Thursday at 5:30 pm.
Concerts and Recitals
In addition to the liturgical music making at St Saviour’s we run a concert series. The Friday lunchtime concerts run between 1:15 pm and 2:00 pm and showcase a wide range of musicians and musical styles.
St Saviour's is regularly booked as a rehearsal and recording space by amateur and professional groups, at affordable rates.
The main space is versatile and well lit, with a supply of chairs and music stands.
