Sing After School began in January 2020, and offers a weekly musical education to children aged 7-13.
We start the new term on Thursday 10th September. Risk assessments will be carried out in full, and the club will be adapted to continue its educational mission in a way that follows hygiene regulations. This is particularly important for singing, and the club will closely follow the RSCM's guidance for safe singing.
The free club meets on Thursdays at 4:30pm for 1 hour. So far, the children have listened to and discussed a wide range of music, including Stravinsky, Mozart, Messiaen, Ravel and a particular focus on Benjamin Britten's Four Sea Interludes.
After discussing the music over some healthy snacks and drinks, the children stretch and warm up, ready to sing. So far they have been learning songs from Benjamin Britten's Friday Afternoons.
We also aim to structure each term by getting to know a set piece of orchestral music, followed by a trip at the end of term to hear the London Symphony Orchestra, as well as putting on our own concert at St Saviour's for the children to perform what they have learned.
