Sing After School began in January 2020, offers a weekly musical education to children aged 7-13.
This free club meets on Thursdays at 4:30pm for 1 hour. So far, the children have listened to and discussed a wide range of music, including Stravinsky, Mozart, Messiaen, Ravel and a particular focus on Benjamin Britten's Four Sea Interludes.
After discussing the music over some healthy snacks and drinks, the children stretch and warm up, ready to sing. So far they have been learning songs from Benjamin Britten's Friday Afternoons.
From Thursday 23rd April, Sing After School will resume over Zoom video conferencing. Please get in touch with Richard - - if you would like your child to join.
When the Covid-19 lockdown is lifted, Sing After School will resume regular meetings during school term time. We hope to develop the club in the new academic year with another member of staff, bridging the gap between the club and the regular church choir. Children have an opportunity to become choristers at St Saviour's, singing once a week with the choir of professional and volunteer adult singers, and receiving pocket money payment for attendance.
We also aim to structure each term by getting to know a set piece of orchestral music, followed by a trip at the end of term to hear the London Symphony Orchestra, as well as putting on our own concert at St Saviour's for the children to perform what they have learned.
